Several ASRC members, including some of their children, went to San Antonio to see Temple Grandin speak. She, along with two other well known speakers on autism (Dr. Jim Balle, and Jennifer McIlwee Myers) provided valuable information, first hand accounts and even humor. They signed our books and took photos with us. (See photo to the left)
Temple Grandin is a best-selling author and an admired person with autism. She speaks around the world as an autism advocate, and is listed as one of Time Magazine's "100 Most Influential People in the World." She has a PhD. in Animal Science and is a professor at Colorado State University. The movie of her life is called "Temple Grandin."
ASRC held its first fundraiser - a rummage sale at the Unity by the Sea Church on October 22. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped to make it a success! There was a lot of teamwork, heavy lifting and numerous work hours - and everyone did it with a smile on their face. We appreciate your time and talents. A special "thank-you" to Linda Kring who thought of the idea, and ran with it - as the event organizer and by securing the location. This money helped pay to file all of the non-profit paperwork and the remainder will go towards printing info packets for the newly-diagnosed, and those moving toward adulthood. Thanks again!
